The tradition and practice of yoga has had a significant impact on my own healing journey; physically, mentally, emotionally & spiritually. When I noticed the positive impacts of this practice, particularly with managing anxiety, I felt called to learn about the therapeutic benefits of yoga.
After completing my BSW, I treated myself and took trip to Costa Rica to complete my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training. This was a transformational experience and led me to realize that yoga was an essential element to my personal healing journey as well as developed a passion for sharing this practice with those I work with. Shortly before I began my MSW, I sought additional training in Trauma-Informed Yoga Therapy (TIYT). In this course I learned more about cutting edge therapeutic approaches than I did during my graduate training. With this training, I have been able to confidently integrate yoga therapy into my clinical practice. Since taking this training, I have been honored to participated as faculty for TIYT Canada.
In case you wonder what Yoga Therapy is, it is the application of specific yogic practices (postures/movement, breathing techniques, mindfulness, meditation and more) and their known benefits to address ailments of the body, mind, and spirit. These tools can be used to improve one’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Yoga therapy is a unique healing modality as it addresses ailments from a holistic perspective rather than viewing each aspect of the self as separate from each other. Yoga therapy is different from regular yoga classes as each of the sessions are designed to address the unique issues of each individual or small group.
Yoga/Yoga therapy in recent years has gained attention in modern settings due to growing research that highlights the significant health benefits that this practice has to offer. Yoga therapy is being used as conjunctive treatment for many mental and physical illnesses, including but not limited to mental stress, PTSD, depression, anxiety, addiction, eating disorders, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and more!
My work with yoga therapy techniques in the context of psychotherapy is to address mental health concerns. I use this approach in both individual and group work. I am a Clinical Facilitator of an evidence-based yoga therapy group called the Overcome!™ Clinic design for addressing mental health challenges such as chronic stress, anxiety, trauma, and depression.
Morgan has also designed a self-guide 4 module yoga program called Rituals for Resilience ™, that focuses on healing the nervous to support mental and emotional wellness. Click the link below to learn more.
“Morgan is genuine, authentic and caring. She truly leads from a person-centered approach and I always feel restored, relaxed and re-energized after sessions with her.”
